Be sure to select Update for Windows 8. In regards to troubleshooting, I've already replaced the pen twice before it stopped working this time around. This time, no pens work on my surface. That's why I went back to Win 8. I've even tried replacing the battery on this last pen.
I've also gone through device manager and there are two mouse devices, but no pen device. And whenever I try to manually install the drivers for the pen, it tells me that it is not compatible with this operating system.
In an attempt to figure out what in the world is preventing my pen from working, I'm doing the one thing I didn't want to do and neglected to do iniatially I'm putting together the Surface Pro 3 recovery image it finally downloaded after 8 tries. Hopefully this will fix it.
